Sport Spreading Function of Passive Participation Tools-Conclusion
The increasing effectiveness of mass media in a rapidly advancing process also helps the emergence of a
wide variety of recreational activities. Sports has an important place in these pursuits. New services
undertaken in line with the expectations of societies, such as the use of sports in leisure time with active
sports, can be ignored in the broadcasting policies of televisions. A large number of people tend to get to
know, watch and do many sports, especially outdoor sports, apart from football.
Informative and attractive advertisements for the promotion of various sports branches where and how it
can be done should be given to television channels in order to popularize sports in the society. Particularly,
with the beginning of the effect of internet and social media applications in every aspect of social life, a
new form of media consumption has emerged as a form of passive participation in sports activities.
For example, the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa reached approximately 3.2 billion people,
considering the one-minute uninterrupted viewership. Another example of passive participation in sports
can be given on the basis of the Formula 1 organization. According to the data; In 2011, the number of
television viewers of the Formula 1 organization reached 515 million people.
Interest is defined as a fairly stable disposition within an individual to like or prefer something or someone.
It encourages and motivates individuals to be active in something, to prefer one activity to another,
overcoming obstacles, achieving better results and to find more refined techniques. The effect of sports
activity or participation in sports on the level of happiness is clear. Physiologically, sports activity causes
chemical reactions in the body, which make the person feel better or lead to a psychologically positive
state.
Many studies have also explored the social and psychological benefits of sports participation. For example,
participating in sports or leisure activities allows people to escape from the mundane and monotonous
nature of daily life. It increases competition and social interaction with others and reduces stress in daily
life.
As a result, active participation in sport has become a widely accepted as a part of daily life and in that
sense sport has become a leisure activity for an increasing number of people. It seems that these
developments have also removed the traditional barriers to participation in sports. The results from the
studies show that, participation rates have increased over the past three decades, particularly among
women. However, it should be noted that this increase is due to the redefinition of what is perceived as
sport and recreational activity.
