Factors Affecting Sports Participation in Daily Life
Leisure includes activities freely chosen according to individual interest. This free choice and intrinsic
motivation can contribute to increased happiness, self-determination and self-confidence. Leisure time
activities include volunteer activities for pleasure. It has been associated with many health benefits,
including reduced stress. Participation of the individual as a practitioner in a sporting event indicates active
sport participation or in other words, active sport consumption.
An important part of active sports participation in social life takes place in the context of recreational
sports. Concepts such as "healthy life" and "quality life" in developed societies have made recreational
sports, especially physical activity and fitness, a part of an individual's life. It would not be wrong to say that
there are some determinants of active participation in recreational sports.
In determining the factors affecting sports participation, it is seen that individuals with a higher education
level (high school or vocational high school, college, faculty, postgraduate education) tend to participate
more in sports activities than individuals with lower education.
It has been seen that they have a higher rate of participation due to the desire to be physiologically
healthier and fit, psychological rest, social and cultural development are at the forefront. In addition, the
fact that well educated people have a high awareness of the effects of sports on both mental and physical
health is among the determinants of this situation. All these results reveal that as the level of education
increases, the participation in sports also increases.
