Introduction
Numerous studies show that work-related stress is increasingly common among workers. One in four
workers say that the office is their main source of stress and that it affects both their work and personal
performance.
For this reason, companies have started to implement wellness programmes to improve quality of life
through, among others, physical activity at work.
It has been shown that physical activity is not only a way of coping with stress, but that including it in our
daily routine, whether in or out of the office, improves our mental and physical health, reducing stress
levels, tension and increasing our immune system. It also reduces the risk of anxiety or depression,
prevents obesity and plays a key role in psychological health, boosting self-esteem and emotional well-
being.
For example, 73% of Spaniards are sedentary, according to the Spanish Journal of Cardiology, and 20%
suffer from obesity, as stated by SEEDO. With these figures, it is natural for companies to be concerned
about the health of their employees and to implement initiatives that promote a healthy lifestyle with
physical exercise as the focus of attention.
Studies carried out in Anglo-Saxon countries show that there is a correlation between sports practice and
improved productivity. This translates into benefits for the company as there is less sick leave and a
higher level of employee satisfaction.
